Important Note
Fast Pack units sold prior to January 2023 are not PRO models and use different, non-compatible tips.
Downpack Technique
- Sear the cone at the orifice using the activated heat plugger and remove excess.
- Compact coronally using a wide hand plugger.
- Activate the Fast Pack Pro and drive the heated plugger apically in one continuous motion.
- Maintain apical pressure for 10 seconds to compensate for cooling shrinkage.
- Reactivate briefly (1-2 seconds), pause, then withdraw the plugger.
Clinical Tip:
A small amount of gutta-percha sticking to the plugger indicates correct technique. A clean plugger may suggest improper cone or plugger selection.

Backfill Technique
Once the apical plug is established with Fast Pack Pro:
- Use Fast Fill injectable gutta-percha to fill the remaining canal.
- Position the tip as close as possible to the apical plug.
- Allow material to flow while gradually withdrawing the device.
- Apply vertical condensation with hand pluggers during cooling.
This creates a homogeneous, 3D seal extending to the canal orifice.
Clinical Advantages
- Excellent apical sealing ability.
- Effective 3D obturation, including lateral canals and isthmuses.
- Enhanced adaptation through heat + hydraulic pressure.
- Helps entomb residual bacteria after cleaning.
Contraindications
Avoid this technique in the following cases:
- Inability to position the plugger within 3 - 5 mm of the apex.
- Cracked roots (risk of fracture under pressure)
Alternative: carrier-based systems (e.g. OneStep)
- Open apex, irregular apex, or inverse taper
Recommended: MTA-based obturation
